GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - More housing is coming to downtown Grand Rapids.
The $32 million B.O.B. expansion is on track to be completed by 2017.
"It's an exciting new venue coming downtown, bringing concerts and we're excited about that in general," said Corey Bixby of Orion Construction.
The project was green lit in part due to the need for more housing in downtown Grand Rapids. The venue tower will house 11 floors of one and two bedroom apartments. Nearly 100 new units will be ready for renters in 2017.
"There's other projects popping up all around town through some of our competitors and they are filling up fast," Bixby said.
The project broke ground earlier this year and workers tell me they are on schedule. The first phase to be completed will be a new concert venue with a capacity to hold 3,000 people. Organizers are hoping to attract world-class concerts.
Bixby says it is all an indication of the growth and vibrancy of the area.
"I think right now the opportunities are limitless," Bixby said.
