Demolition work has started on the single-story office building at 1001 Monroe Ave. NW to make room for the River’s Edge apartment building by Orion Real Estate Solutions, a division of Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction.
Progressive AE is the project's architect, and Orion Construction is the project’s contractor.
The 57,103-square-foot apartment building will include 32 market-rate apartments and a ground-floor restaurant.
The building will include a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom units that range from 680 to 1,100 square feet.
Orion Construction and its Orion Real Estate Solutions have been active in downtown Grand Rapids, recently completing the $45 million, 11-story Arena Place, at 55 Ottawa Ave. NW, and currently constructing the $22-million Venue Tower and $16-million 20 Monroe Live with The Gilmore Collection, with both projects at 20 Monroe Ave. NW.
Near downtown, Orion is working on Gateway at Belknap at Hastings Street NE, from Coit Avenue NE to Clancy Avenue NE. Near Eastown, the firm is nearing completion of the $9.6-million Fulton Square at Carlton Avenue SE and E. Fulton Street.
Orion is also planning the $63.5-million 150 Ottawa project, a 14 story, two-tower development and the proposed future home of the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd.
