GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Tenants are now moving into the new apartment complexes popping up in the Belknap area of Grand Rapids.
They are transforming one of the city's oldest neighborhoods.
The multi-story apartment buildings are going up where old, single-family and duplex homes stood for decades.
Developers are targeting medical students and hospital staff who work and study a short walk away along the Michigan Street “medical mile."
“Anyone can live here but it is convenient for anybody working over in the hospitals,” explains Gateway at Belknap leasing manager Jarred Biggs.
“Look at the place. It’s beautiful,” says new Gateway at Belknap tenant Kristal McNally. “It’s in the perfect location right off of Michigan Street next to the hospitals and I think it brings a lot to the neighborhood.”
Besides Gateway at Belknap, several other big and small apartment projects are also underway nearby or soon will be.
Grand Valley State University is also building a new five-story, $50 million health sciences center in the neighborhood.
