Construction Superintendent

Job description:

Orion Construction is seeking a full-time Construction Superintendent to join our team. Our Superintendents oversee the entire operation of the construction site and direct trade partners, suppliers, and on-site crews. They should be able to determine and address any risk areas in order to maintain the safety of workers. This candidate should be experienced in communicating project milestones with clients and other parties and be able to establish a timeline for completion.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with preconstruction activities, scope of work, cost estimates, etc.
  • Review and interpret drawings, plans, and other construction specifications
  • Work with senior management, project managers, sub-contractors, and design professionals
  • Develop and maintain schedules; provide thorough daily and weekly reporting
  • Monitor and evaluate performance; conduct subcontractor and safety meetings when necessary
  • Follow and advocate company standards and work proactively with the Orion Construction team
  • Provide materials and execute assigned tasks in a complete and timely manner

Requirements:

  • Looking for superintendents with experience in larger, structural steel and/or concrete projects; As well as superintendents with experience in wood frame construction
  • OSHA 30-Hour and CPR/First-Aid Certification preferred
  • Strong leadership and communication skills; positive subcontractor relations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and other Construction-based software
  • Committed to and proven history of high standards in safety and quality

Project Manager

Job description:

Orion Construction is seeking a full-time Construction Project Manager to join our Grand Rapids team. The Construction Project Manager is responsible for project planning, cost management, contract administration, safety management, change order review and procedures, project administration, shop drawing revision, subcontractor oversight, and project close-out.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversee projects from start to finish while ensuring progress and adhering to a preset schedule
  • Perform a key role in project planning, budgeting, and resource identification
  • Provide budget management, track expenses, and minimize exposure and risk in projects
  • Devise project work plans and docs, make revisions as needed, and ensure completeness
  • Regularly monitor construction progress and communicate effectively with subcontractors
  • Coordinate efforts of all parties involved in the project including architects, municipal officials, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and laborers
  • Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines and safety standards
  • Identify elements of project design and construction likely to create disputes and claims

Requirements:

  • Minimum five years of project management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite specifically Microsoft Project
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, officials, and clients
  • Knowledge of legal issues and safety standards

Preferred requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management (or similar degree)

Construction Management Intern

Our internship program focuses on attracting and developing the best talent for students in the construction management field. The program runs for 12-14 weeks and exposes students to a variety of construction management roles including estimating, project management, and field supervision. Qualified interns will perform tasks relating to the day-to-day operations in the office and on the job site.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with preconstruction activities including creating scopes of work, cost estimates, invitations to bid, etc.
  • Review and interpret drawings, plans, and other construction specifications
  • Work with senior management, project managers, subcontractors, and design professionals
  • Develop and maintain schedules
  • Provide thorough daily and weekly reporting
  • Monitor and evaluate job site performance
  • Participate in subcontractor and safety meetings
  • Follow and advocate company standards
  • Provide materials and execute assigned tasks in a complete and timely manner

Requirements:

  • A genuine interest in the construction industry
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors, peers, and external partners
  • Currently enrolled or a recent graduate in construction management or a related degree
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Resourceful with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to prioritize and multi-task
