GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The final steel beam on a downtown Grand Rapids development is now in place.

Crews topped off the Warner BuildingThursday, slightly more than a year after workers broke ground on the 14-story, two-tower development.

The site at 150 Ottawa Ave. was previously home to an Ellis Parking lot. Some people were concerned the development would whittle down the already limited amount of parking spots in downtown Grand Rapids, but the president of Ellis Parking says drivers shouldn’t worry.

“There will be 400 spaces – more than enough for the project. There were only 125 spaces previously, so it will be a nice addition,” said Michael Ellis.

“The timing is right,” he added. “It took a combination of the right partners and when that all came together, it was no doubt that we made a good decision.”

The development will feature a Hyatt Place hotel, restaurant, shops and Chemical Bank’s main West Michigan office. The first tenants are expected to move in in late 2019.
