ON THE MOVE: MoTown Square development prepares for construction with house move

By July 3, 2024No Comments

MoTown Square is a multi-family development set in the heart of Grand Rapids. This initiative will introduce 54 units of affordable senior housing to our community, addressing a critical need for accessible living options.

Located at 240 Hall Street SE, this 54,000 square foot development is tailored for individuals aged 55 and older who require assistance with daily living. LINC Up and MoTown Square Development join as codevelopers on this significant endeavor. Orion Construction is the general contractor on the build.

As part of the site preparation, it was the owner’s vision to relocate his two-story home to 1201 Cass Avenue SE. This collaborative effort between Orion Construction, Consumers Energy, LINC Up, and the MoTown Square Development team involved temporarily closing Cass Avenue for a short time to facilitate the home’s move across the MoTown Square site from its current location at 1201 Lafayette Avenue SE.

Supported by a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) award from The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), and with financing partners including Alliant Capital, IFF, the City of Grand Rapids, and Michigan Economic Development Corporation, MoTown Square is poised to set a new standard in senior living accommodations. Tower Pinkster serves as the project’s architect.

The upcoming groundbreaking ceremony date will be announced soon, marking a pivotal moment in the realization of MoTown Square and its promise to enrich the lives of Grand Rapids’ senior population.
