The recent move by Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction signifies the “topping off” of The Exchange, a 340,000-square-foot building in downtown Kalamazoo the firm broke ground on in April 2017.
The Exchange, at 155 W. Michigan Ave., will feature ground-floor retail space, a parking deck on floors two through six, 25,877 square feet of class-A office space, 133 apartments on floors eight through 14, a penthouse space with multiple rooftop terraces and amenities on the 15th floor.
The construction team will now enclose the building and begin interior work to build out both the residential and commercial spaces.
The $52-million project is slated for completion next summer.
Cutlerville-based Kent Companies served as the concrete subcontractor for the project. The team poured over 16,000 cubic yards of concrete and dedicated over 92,000 man-hours to the site.
Kalamazoo-based Byce & Associates is the architect on the project, according to a previous Business Journal report.
Phoenix Properties has also announced Chemical Bank and Rx Optical as the first two tenants of the building.
The project is financed through a mix of private equity and incentives from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
