Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction said last week Gary Postma stepped down from the firm he helped start in 2000.

Postma most recently served as the firm's CFO, as well as CEO of its real estate development division, Orion Real Estate Solutions, or ORES.

“We will miss Gary, and we thank him for his vision, creating strong relationships within the lending community and his ability to forecast industry trends,” said Roger Rehkopf, president, Orion Construction. “We have tremendous talent here at Orion right now, and we look forward to the energy, passion and hunger that our upcoming executives bring to the table”.

Over the last 18 years, Postma has overseen Orion’s growth from a three-man organization to a multi-million-dollar construction and development firm behind numerous projects: Venue Tower, 20 Monroe Live, Arena Place, DoubleTree Port Huron and the soon-to-be-completed Warner Building and Hyatt Place in downtown Grand Rapids.

Postma also partnered with John Wheeler in 2014 to create ORES.

He will continue to serve on Orion’s Board of Directors, mentor new leadership and remain with ###a href="http://orionbuilt.com/real-estate-solutions" target="_blank">ORES.

“I love what we’ve created through nearly two decades of hard work at Orion, and I want to thank our employees for their dedication,” Postma said. “I look forward to spending my remaining time here mentoring our next generation of leadership and working with our team to finalize our strategic plan.”

Postma co-founded the firm with John Boonstra, who moved on in 2017.

Orion project updates

Rehkopf added that Orion is currently hiring to support a backlog of work in 2018, including the construction of more than 250 townhome units in West Michigan.

Orion is completing The Corner Bar in Rockford and Heritage Place apartments in Grand Rapids later this month and recently celebrated a steel topping-off ceremony for the $55-million Warner Building in downtown Grand Rapids.
